We love sharing our passion for Somatic Education with others. We'd be delighted to have you join us in a class or workshop. Our class schedule changes frequently as we're often inspired to create new learning opportunities. Join our mailing list to stay up to date. Unless otherwise noted, people of all "skill levels" are welcome to attend any of our classes. You might be an athlete, a couch potato, or anywhere in between, and you'll find life enhancing "aha!" moments and enjoyable learning opportunities. (Please note, however, that group classes are not recommended if you are in the acute phase of an injury. Contact us about private sessions if this is the case.) We recommend you wear comfortable clothing, bring padding so that you'll be comfortable on a hard floor (a blanket or fitness pad works well) and don't forget to bring an open mind and sense of humor, each of which can optimize your learning experience. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Change The Way You Move Change The Way you Age

Do we stop moving because we get old or do we get old because we stop moving?  Or because we do keep moving but with no refinement - perhaps attempting to "combat" the signs of aging by pushing harder, forcing our way through the pain?

We are delighted to offer a series of lessons exploring movement and its relationship to how we experience age and our level of vitality.
We have clients that come it at various stages in life - maybe it's at age 40 once his skiing leaves him feeling sore; maybe it's at age 50 once her doctor has advised her to stop running; maybe it's at 60 when everything feels achy in the morning. Are these the inevitable effects of aging?

We have had the good fortune to meet and study with Feldenkrais teachers in their 80s who have more vitality, lightness, and ease in their movement than many people in their 20s. How do they do it? Ruthy Alon coined the term "biological optimism" to describe the magic that happens when we have an appreciation for learning; when we seek ease, efficiency and pleasure in movement. Biological optimism, a natural result of studying oneself through Feldenkrais lessons, leads to the ability to get out of a chair with more ease at age 60 than 20.  The same possibility holds true for getting up or down the mountain.
Join us for one or all of the Awareness Through Movement lessons we'll be exploring in this dynamic series: Change the Way You Move, Change the Way You Age.

Improve the Way You Run!

Sept.18 1-6pm
@Avenues Yoga

$75 prepaid, $80 drop in. (Repeat students can register at a discounted rate of $50)

For many of us the way we develop our running style is by starting to run - we just "run the way we run." Rarely is there a context where we can return to exploring our running to see if it is as economical, as powerful or as enjoyable as it could be. We might attempt to follow instructions from the experts on the "best" foot strikes or arm swings or vary the shoes we wear - but is there a way we could we find an internal compass which could reliably lead us to strong, efficient, and graceful running, directed from the inside by our own experience and awareness?
In this workshop we will do several Awareness Through Movement® lessons which can both clarify our experience of the mechanics of running as well as awaken our capacity to attend to many details of ourselves as we run.

As Moshe Feldenkrais often said, "When you know what you are doing, you can do what you want." Do you know what you are doing as you run? In your hip joints? In your ribs? With your arms? Your abs? Your toes? With your attention?

This workshop is open to those who compete in races and want to reduce wear and tear and improve time,  those who used to run but it hurt too much, those who run recreationally, and those who think that running is impossible.

The short running parts of the workshop are optional for those with injuries, or who do not run, and the learning and discoveries in the floor lessons (like most things Feldenkrais) can be applied to myriad aspects of life beyond running.

For many of us, if we study anatomy at all it is something that is "out there" - bony landmarks, muscular attachments, degrees of motion, lots of memorization etc.
In this workshop we will explore anatomy from the inside, as an essential aspect of our embodied experience. We often know much more about how the engine runs in our car than, say, the mechanics of our breathing, or how our hip joints participate in walking. Through Awareness Through Movement® lessons and other experiments, we will explore the rich terrain of our breathing, walking, organs, ribs, shoulders, spine and many other aspects of embodiment. As these areas are clarified and included in our awareness, our self image is broadened and a natural intelligence begins to inform how we move and participate in the world. As we feel ourselves in a more complete way, we learn to become more efficient, more kind to ourselves through movement, and we discover how to release the unnecessary tension and effort that we have carried with great diligence for so long.

Restorative Retreat Days @ Snowbird's Cliff Spa
with Erin
Fall - Sat. Oct 2nd 12:30-4pm
Winter - Sat. Dec. 11th, 12:30-4pm
aikido roll
I'm thrilled to return to the Cliff Spa to offer another day of restoration in their beautiful mountain setting. Enjoy 3 and a half hours of deep relaxation at the Cliff Spa. In addition to enjoying quiet time allowing the bodymind to melt into the supportive yoga bolsters and blankets, we'll also be treating ourselves to small gentle movement sequences which can be incredibly powerful in allowing the resolution of long standing (and often unconscious) tension patterns - leaving you feeling open, fresh, and new.

Before or after the practice, you're welcome (and encouraged) to enjoy the world-class amenities at the Cliff Spa, including the eucalyptus steam room, the rooftop Jacuzzi and heated chlorine-free pool with stunning mountain views, the sauna, the workout equipment and more. Of course, when the weather permits, you may enjoy an early morning or late afternoon ski or snowboard, or even a hike or snowshoe in the beauty of the mountains. Towels and a locker are provided for your use, and you can pay $5 to upgrade and receive spa sandals and a robe. You may wish to make a day (or a full weekend) of it and book a room in one of Snowbird's many lodges so you needn't hurry back down the canyon but can steep yourself in the pristine mountain setting, enjoying your own relaxed embodiment. No experience is necessary for you or a loved one to enjoy the benefits of this practice. You're invited to bring your own props if you have them, but additional bolsters, blankets and blocks will also be provided.
Once you register, you'll receive an email with additional information on what to bring, where to park, and other details.

The retreat will be limited to 18 participants. Please register in advance - these workshops always fill! You can either do this by sending a check (please first call/email to confirm that space is still available: 801-898-0478 or
eringeesamanrabke@gmail.com ) Then you can send your check to 823 1st Ave, SLC UT 84103.
Or you may also register online through our website by clicking here.  Cost is $50 when paid in advance,  $55 when paid on the day of class. For more info on the Cliff Spa, click here.    If you plan to come with a friend or loved one(s) please register at the same time, as these workshops tend to fill.  If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 801-898-0478 or email me.
